The idea of creating youth exchanges comes from the basic notion that meeting an “other”‘ any “other”, has an intrinsic educational value, and meeting an “other” who challenges you, whom you have to make an effort in order to understand, is even better. Encounters between Israelis, Germans and Polish youths are charged with all the emotions that derive from the shared history.
For many Israeli youths, the journey to Poland has become something of a rite of passage. They travel to Poland to see with their own eyes the places where the horrors had taken place, where Jews were slaughtered, where others collaborated or stood by. It’s as if they want to make sure that the traumatic events exist not only in history books and ancient documentaries but that there are actually tangible remains that testify to what transpired.
The following is the product of the accumulated experience of participating in a tri-lateral project and operating the preparation process of another project. The purpose of this document is to describe a sequence of the activities and steps that will assist a project leader in the preparation process. This document does not discuss content and is focus on the framework alone.
